Buying on EMI? See what you really pay
1. Pay over how many months?
2. What does the shop offer?
EMI costs you ₹691 more than paying in full.
| Pay in full | EMI, 6 months | |
|---|---|---|
| Pay today | ₹59,900 | ₹235 bank fee |
| Every month | Nothing | About ₹10,059 × 6 |
| Total you pay | ₹59,900 | ₹60,591 |
Why more? "No-cost" only means the shop pays the bank's interest for you. You still pay tax (18% GST) on that interest, ₹456, and a one-time bank fee of ₹235.
Smarter way: put aside ₹9,984 a month for 6 months, then buy Apple iPhone 15 in full around July, during Amazon Prime Day, when prices often drop. You pay ₹59,900 and keep the ₹691.
How we worked this out
We use 15% interest a year and a ₹199 fee (plus GST), common for card EMIs. Your bank's EMI page shows its own numbers. The monthly amount includes the GST banks add to each bill. Missing an EMI adds late fees and can lower your credit score.
